After sensing his ungratefulness, a Missouri esthetician who planned her husband’s 50th birthday party did the unthinkable.
Michelle Peters, 47, is accused of poisoning her spouse’s Mountain Dew drink with Roundup weed killer because he was “not appreciative” of the festivities she had organized.
Her husband contacted the Laclede County Sheriff’s Office on Monday, reporting that he believed his wife was poisoning him.
He explained that his Mountain Dew tasted “Odd” and “weird,” and he got sick shortly after drinking it. Initially, he didn’t think much of it, but after two weeks, he began coughing up brown or yellow mucus and experienced a sore throat, vomiting, and diarrhea.
He noticed that his Mountain Dew drinks outside their Missouri home tasted normal, while the two-liter bottles in his garage tasted off.
This prompted him to check CCTV footage, where he allegedly saw his wife mixing Mountain Dew bottles with Roundup and returning the tampered drinks to the garage fridge.
According to the affidavit, Peter’s husband stated, “Every time he put a new bottle in the refrigerator, Michelle would put Roundup in it.”
He provided a bottle of the tainted liquid and the videotape to someone as evidence “in case he died from being poisoned.”
When he told Peters he was feeling sick, she allegedly replied “He probably had COVID and should stay away from the grandkids.”
When questioned, Peters initially claimed she was mixing the liquids to make “Weed killer that she saw on Pinterest,” but eventually admitted that she “should have just divorced” him.
“Michelle said she was mad at her husband because she had thrown him a 50th birthday party and he was not appreciative,” police reported in the affidavit.
Michelle Peters has been charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action according to the court documents viewed by The Post. She is being held at Laclede County Detention Center with no bond and is set to make a court appearance on July 2.
Her husband suspects that she poisoned him to obtain his $500,000 life insurance payout or because she might be having an affair.
