Lately, I’ve been watching interviews from the School of Hard Knocks podcast, and there’s something I can’t stop thinking about.
The host has interviewed many successful entrepreneurs and billionaires, people who have built massive companies, created incredible wealth, and achieved what many only dream of.
Yet, in the middle of conversations about business, success, and money, he often asks a simple question:
“Do you believe in God?” or “Do you know Jesus?” That question changes the entire conversation.
Success Doesn’t Eliminate the Need for God
What surprised me wasn’t the question itself. It was the answer. Many of these billionaires don’t hesitate.
They boldly say, “Yes.”
Some go even further. One says, “Without Jesus, I am nothing.”
Another says, “Everything I have is because of God.”
These are people who have reached the top of the financial ladder, yet they openly acknowledge that their success did not begin with their intelligence or hard work alone. They recognise that behind every opportunity, every breakthrough, and every achievement is the hand of God.
That is a powerful testimony.
Money Is Not the Greatest Achievement
Society often tells us that we will finally be satisfied if we make enough money, buy more possessions, or gain greater influence.
But hearing wealthy people speak about Jesus reminds us of something important.
Money can buy comfort. It can buy houses, cars, vacations, and luxury.
But it cannot buy peace, purpose, erase guilt or guarantee tomorrow. Only God can satisfy the deepest needs of the human heart.
God Is the Source
Sometimes we become so focused on the blessings that we forget where they come from.
We pray for jobs, businesses, promotion, wisdom, and open doors. Yet every good thing we receive has only one true Source, God.
Our talents, strengths, and ideas come from Him. The opportunities we enjoy are not accidents. They are gifts of His grace.
The Bible reminds us that every good and perfect gift comes from above.
That means even our ability to create wealth is not something we produced on our own. It is God who gives us the ability, the health, the favour, and the opportunities.
Don’t Chase the Gift More Than the Giver
One of the greatest dangers in life is becoming so busy chasing blessings that we stop seeking the One who blesses.
It is possible to pray for God’s provision and then forget Him once the provision arrives. Many of us desire success more than we desire His presence. But every blessing is meant to point us back to the Blesser.
The greatest miracle is not becoming rich. It is knowing Christ. Everything else is temporary. Jesus is eternal.
Watching those interviews reminded me of a truth I never want to forget.
If people who have accumulated billions still recognise their need for Jesus, then none of us will ever outgrow our need for Him.
The greatest wealth is not found in a bank account. It is found in a relationship with God.
When you have Jesus, you have hope in difficult times, peace in the middle of life’s storms, wisdom to make the right decisions, strength to keep going, and a joy that no amount of money can ever buy.
Money may change your lifestyle, but only Christ can change your life. So pursue excellence. Work hard. Build businesses. Dream big. But above everything else, pursue God because when you have the Source, you have what truly matters.
May we never become so focused on receiving God’s blessings that we forget to love, worship, and follow the God who gives them.
