    The Fierce Battle of Motherhood

As a wildlife lover, there are certain scenes from nature documentaries that stay in the mind long after the television has gone off. One of such moments for me was watching a crocodile preparing to bring life into the world.

The crocodile, a creature naturally built for the river, had to leave the comfort of the water and crawl painfully onto the riverbank. There, under the scorching heat and open danger, she dug carefully into the sand and laid her eggs. When she finished, she gently covered them with sand, almost as though nature itself had taught her tenderness.

What struck me most was what happened afterwards. She stayed. For a crocodile, remaining on land is neither convenient nor safe. The river is her strength. The river is where she moves best. Yet she chose discomfort because motherhood demanded it.
That alone is a lesson many of us overlook about mothers: true love willingly abandons comfort for responsibility.

    When Danger Came
Not long after, danger appeared on the horizon. A group of wild dogs, described by the wildlife commentator as “forest bandits,” approached the buried eggs. They sniffed around the sand, sensing an easy meal hidden beneath the earth. To them, the eggs represented food, but to the crocodile, they represented her children.

The wild dogs began digging aggressively, but suddenly the mother crocodile exploded into action. She fought fiercely, charging at them with rage and determination. What looked like an easy opportunity quickly became a dangerous battle. Eventually, the wild dogs retreated. They realised something important: nothing is more dangerous than a mother protecting her own.

Watching that scene reminded me that motherhood is not merely about giving birth. Motherhood is warfare wrapped in love. It is a sacrifice hidden beneath ordinary actions. It is a strength many people never fully appreciate until they become parents themselves.

Every Human Being Owes a Mother
The truth is simple: every single one of us entered this world through suffering.

    >Before any of us took our first breath, a mother carried us through pain, fear, discomfort, and uncertainty. Before we ever walked, someone stayed awake through sleepless nights to care for us. Before we understood love, we experienced it through the arms of a mother.

Many mothers sacrificed their bodies so their children could live. They sacrificed opportunities so their children could eat. Mothers sacrificed sleep so their children could rest peacefully, and some mothers silently endure emotional exhaustion, financial hardship, loneliness, and worry, all while still finding the strength to smile for their children. And sadly, much of this sacrifice goes unnoticed.

Society often celebrates success, power, fame, and wealth, yet some of the greatest heroes live ordinary lives and are simply called “Mom.”

    The Silent Soldiers of Society
If we are honest, motherhood is one of the toughest assignments on earth. There are no holidays from worrying about your children or from the emotional labour of retirement benefits. There are no medals handed to mothers for years of hidden sacrifice. Yet mothers continue. They continue to pray, protect, encourage, and forgive.

Even when children become difficult, distant, or ungrateful, a mother’s heart somehow keeps loving. In many ways, mothers are silent soldiers. Their battles are not fought on battlefields with weapons, but in hospital rooms, kitchens, classrooms, prayer corners, marketplaces, and lonely nights filled with anxiety over their children’s future. Some fight sickness.

Some fight poverty, abandonment and disappointment, but they still rise every morning because someone depends on them.

A Love the World Cannot Replace
We live in a world increasingly divided by selfishness, anger, and cruelty. Genuine love often feels rare and temporary. Yet one of the purest reflections of unconditional love still exists in the heart of a mother.

A mother’s love remains even when circumstances change. It stays through failures, survives misunderstandings and persists through pain.

Even when children grow older and drift away, many mothers never stop praying for them. That kind of love is sacred.

It reminds us that God planted something divine inside motherhood, the ability to nurture, protect, forgive, and endure beyond human expectation.

    The Mothers We Sometimes Forget
Not all mothers wear smiles openly. Some mothers are carrying silent grief. Mothers are praying for sick children, and some are mourning children they lost. Also, single mothers carry burdens alone. Women work endlessly just to provide one meal for their families. Grandmothers who became mothers all over again. Women who sacrificed everything so their children could have opportunities they never had. See What the Wild Teaches Us About Motherhood.

Many of these women may never trend on social media or appear in headlines, but heaven sees their labour, and history itself is shaped by the prayers, sacrifices, and resilience of mothers.

Perhaps the greatest tragedy is not that mothers suffer for their children. The greatest tragedy is when their sacrifices are forgotten. The crocodile on that riverbank fought because love demanded it. In the same way, mothers everywhere continue fighting daily battles because love leaves them no alternative.

So today, let us honour mothers not merely with words, but with gratitude, respect, kindness, and meaningful actions. Call your mother. Appreciate her sacrifices. Pray for her and make her proud by the way you live your life.

And if your mother is no longer alive, honour her memory by becoming a person whose life reflects the values she tried to teach you, because long before the world knew your name, there was a woman who carried your pain before you even understood pain existed. Thank God for mothers because in a harsh world, they remain one of humanity’s greatest miracles.
