A North Carolina pastor, Ryan Marlow, of Grace Baptist Church in North Wilkesboro, miraculously regained consciousness from a “deep coma” months after almost having his organs harvested due to an erroneous call by doctors who declared him dead.
Through a Facebook page journaling his recovery, Ryan’s wife, Megan, explained that the 37-year-old pastor suddenly fell ill to a listeria infection in August 2022, which resulted in a traumatic brain stems injury. According to her, “He was living a beautiful and healthy life and then something as innocent as eating dinner turned his world upside down.” She also wrote of Ryan: “He is a fighter. He is the strongest man I know.”

Two weeks after taking her husband to the hospital, Megan confirmed that the doctors gave her the very shocking news that her husband was “Clinically Deceased.” An assertion she would later realize was wrong after the doctor called to explain that extensive consultations showed “her husband, in fact, did not pass away.”
The month of March beams light on National brain injury Awareness annually. In celebration of National Brain Injury Awareness, Meghan Marlow called her husband her “hero.”
Listeria causes symptoms such as fever, muscle aches, and diarrhea, and it can cause meningitis, per Mayo Clinic. However, thoroughly washing produce and cooking meat to the appropriate temperature can help prevent the infection. Watch Ryan’s testimony below:
