I’ve come to realize that our thoughts wield incredible power over our lives as they often serve as our allies and adversaries. At times, they can lead us into the trap of overthinking. Many of us find ourselves also trapped in what I term “mind imprisonment,” where we become captives of our thoughts and unable to break free.Â
I once found myself ensnared in the grip of overthinking, dissecting even the smallest interactions or messages to the point of rewriting texts multiple times and seeking external validation on what to say next. This incessant need for approval prevented others from truly knowing the authentic me. I meticulously crafted my words and actions to fit what I believed others wanted to hear or see, leading to strained relationships and a growing disconnect from my faith.
Living this way hindered me from taking genuine steps of faith, as I felt compelled to meticulously calculate and analyze every decision, even those prompted by God. It gradually eroded my relationships and, more importantly, my connection with God.
While it’s natural to contemplate decisions and assess situations, overthinking becomes problematic when it feels like we’re trapped in a cycle of rumination. Overthinking is a genuine mental challenge that requires proper attention and treatment. Seeking psychological assistance, as I did, can offer temporary relief. However, from personal experience, I’ve come to realize that true healing often lies in embracing spiritual solutions. Healing comes from a determination to confront the issue head-on.
As the saying goes, “Jesus is the answer to every human problem.” It ultimately depends on whether you seek temporary relief or a lasting cure. Many underlying causes, especially those rooted in difficult experiences during upbringing such as distrust or abuse, can contribute to overthinking patterns. However, Jesus offers more than just physical healing; he provides spiritual and emotional restoration, including relief from psychological ailments like overthinking, which can lead to poor decision-making.
My journey toward healing began when I surrendered to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, allowing Him to reshape my thought patterns. Through studying the Bible and listening to Christian teachings on mind management, I’ve witnessed transformative growth. I no longer need showers of validation before I take a step. Overthinking is old school to me. Most importantly, I know who and whose I am, and with God on my side, anything is possible.
You too can experience this transformation and find freedom from overthinking.
