There is a belief many Christians hold, and I share it deeply, that we are co-creators with God. This means that even when life brings situations we do not like, we are not powerless spectators. God invites us to speak life, declare hope, and shape our future through faith-filled action. We do not merely endure circumstances; we participate with God in transforming them.
This truth becomes even more powerful when we look at the lives of people who refused to let their challenges imprison them. One such remarkable example is the story of Kadeena Cox.
A Journey Interrupted But Not Ended
Kadeena Cox began as a promising, able-bodied sprinter, a rising star with her eyes on international athletics. But in May 2014, her life took an unexpected turn when she suffered a stroke. Months later, she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS), a lifelong neurological condition that affects the brain and spinal cord. Her muscles stiffened. Her limbs sometimes went numb. Fatigue drained her strength. With every medical update, the dreams she once held seemed to slip further away.
Yet Kadeena refused to let her diagnosis define her identity or dictate her destiny. She found within herself a determination so fierce that even MS could not silence it.
Rebuilding a Dream in a New Direction
When her body could no longer handle the demands of elite sprinting, Kadeena looked for another way to stay in the world of sport she loved. She shifted toward para-sport, focusing on activities that supported her body rather than strained it. Cycling and strength training became her new path, not a replacement dream, but a reborn one.
Her breakthrough came at the Rio 2016 Paralympics. Against every prediction, she made history by winning gold in two completely different sports: athletics and cycling. It was an achievement the world had not seen from a British athlete since 1984.
She repeated the feat in Tokyo 2020, again claiming multiple gold medals and proving that her victory in Rio was not a miracle; it was the result of grit, training, and unshakeable hope.

Even at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, when she experienced a fall triggered by MS symptoms, she refused to let the setback define the moment. With remarkable resilience, she returned to the track, joined her teammates, and won yet another gold medal in the mixed team sprint.
Her life continues to echo one message: challenges do not close doors; they open new ones.
More Than an Athlete, A Voice for Others
Kadeena Cox is not only an exceptional Paralympian; she is also a pioneer. She became the first Black British athlete to win an Olympic or Paralympic gold in cycling. And instead of keeping her platform to herself, she uses it to uplift others.
She founded the KC Academy, a space that creates opportunities for ethnically diverse athletes in cycling. She also speaks openly about living with invisible disabilities and shares her struggles with MS and mental health so others know they are not alone.
Her contributions were recognised by the British monarchy as she was awarded an MBE in 2017 and later elevated to OBE in 2022 for her services to athletics and cycling.

Beyond sports, she has won Celebrity MasterChef, appeared on popular reality shows, and become a familiar, inspiring presence in British media. Her story resonates because she embodies the truth that a diagnosis is not a dead end; it is simply a detour.
From Setbacks to Strength: What Her Story Teaches Us
Kadeena Cox’s journey holds a message every Christian can understand. Life will sometimes knock us down. We may face diagnoses, disappointments, financial struggles, heartbreaks, or challenges that make us feel helpless. The enemy whispers that we are finished. The world suggests we settle for less. But like Cox, we are not meant to stay on the ground organising a pity party. We are co-creators with God. That means we have the authority to speak hope into despair, courage into fear, strength into weakness, and new beginnings into seasons that feel like endings. With faith and action, we can turn suffering into victory.
The Power to Rise Is Already Within You
Your story is not over, and your struggle is not final. Your disadvantage is not your identity. Just as Kadeena Cox rose by refusing to bow to her circumstances, you too can rise by speaking life, believing God’s promises, and taking courageous steps forward.
A person may not control everything that happens, but it is in your power to control how you respond and with God, your response can reshape your entire future. You are not helpless or finished, nor are you alone. You are a co-creator with God, so speak life, stand up, and rise.
