Christmas came early for me this time 3 years ago. I got a miraculous gift on a supernatural platter of signs and wonders. An invaluable gift wrapped with God’s goodness and faithfulness. What a privilege! It is something I will treasure for the rest of my life. Even as I remember this incident today, I am in complete awe of how good God is. He is too awesome!
It all started on Sunday November 27, 2017. I woke up tossing and turning in bed at about 4.00 am. I had no business being as restless as I was. A strong urge to pray came upon me and I practically dragged myself out of bed and prayed till about 6:00am. I went back to bed feeling a lot better and this time slept like a baby. Little did I know, Psalm 91, my favorite Psalm in the Bible was getting ready to manifest in my family like a movie. He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust – Psalm 91: 1-2.
At 9:00am, my 19 year-old son came and told me he was going to run an errand for a family member. Since where he was going was far and in the countryside, I cautioned him to drive safely. About 5 minutes after he left the house, I called him on his cellphone to come back and drive my car instead. I had no reason for this aside from an impromptu urge to ask him to switch cars. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler – Psalm 91: 3 – 4.
I went to church and enjoyed tarrying in the presence of the Lord. After service, I turned on my phone at 12.30pm and saw 18 missed calls from my son. I was taken aback and knew something was wrong. I called him immediately. “Mom, I almost died today” were the words that came out of his mouth. I cautioned him to stop talking rubbish. He went on to tell me he had a very ball fall from the attic to the floor. I underestimated what he was talking about. I was more concerned about my car he took and when he was bringing it back to me. After all, he sounded fine and secretly, I wondered if he was being his once-in-a-blue-moon dramatic self. If only I knew how narrowly he escaped something too fatal to express. His fall took place around noon. “Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday” – Psalm 91: 5- 6.
It was not until I saw pictures of the ‘so called’ fall my son was talking about that I almost passed out. Oh my goodness!!! I began shivering and sobbing uncontrollably. The family member he ran the errand for asked him to change the air filter in his attic – something my son had never done in his life but assumed he could handle it. The family member went into the attic with him to show him where the air filter was. They stood in there talking for a few minutes when the spot my son was standing on gave way without notice. He fell almost 20 feet below. He remembers falling and landing on the floor with his hands and feet. “Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling – Psalm 91: 9-10.
I really do not know where to start from or what to say. It could have been worse. All I know is God is too faithful!!! I cannot thank HIM enough for this miracle. Words cannot express how elated and grateful I am. My son landed on the floor and blacked out until the Paramedics came. To everyone’s surprise, there were no broken bones, not even a broken finger nail. No major injury except for a slightly bruised part of his stomach area. He was on the road to recovery almost immediately. “For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name ” – Psalm 91:11 – 13.
How else can I explain what happened? What if he landed on his neck, back, or broke his legs? What of his spinal cord or even his head? What if he fell on the railings directly below the hole in the attic? God forbid! All these questions kept popping up in my head and defying human reasoning. This was definitely a performance of Psalm 91. What a privilege to witness the promises of God coming to fruition. “Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name” – Psalm 91:14.
Although the next few days were laden with pain from the fall, his recovery has been nothing short of amazing. He stayed in the hospital for observation and a thorough evaluation of his entire body. To God be the glory, he was given a clean Bill of Health. No complications whatsoever! I am still like them that dream! “He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation – Psalm 91:15 – 16.
I pray that none of us will bury our children. We will all see the end of 2020 in good health, joy and unsurpassed peace. No weapon formed or fashioned against us and any member of our family shall prosper. They that gather together for our sake shall stumble and fall.
We are overcomers by the Blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony.
Only the will of God will flourish in our lives as He preserves our going out and coming in from this time forth and even forevermore.
We will always be at the right place at the right time, in Jesus’ name. It is well.
