Sammy Teussch, a 10-year-old boy with “big plans for the future,” tragically took his life after enduring relentless bullying. Hailing from Greenfield, Indiana, Sammy died by suicide on May 5, 2024, as confirmed by his grieving family. They disclosed that Sammy had been tormented by bullies in the lead-up to his untimely passing. Sammy, a fourth-grader at Greenfield Intermediate School, fell victim to bullying from his peers. His family shared that he ended his life in his bedroom on May 5.
Relatives revealed that Sammy had been targeted at school due to his teeth and glasses. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 15, for the Indiana boy, who cherished fishing and was known for his infectious smile. As his devastated parents grapple with the loss, they strive to comprehend why their child chose to end his life.
His online obituary portrayed him as a boy who “knew no stranger, meant no harm to anyone, never sat still, had the biggest heart along with the best smile, and he ‘had big plans for the future.'”

Sam Teusch, Sammy’s father, recounted how he and his wife had reached out to the school numerous times to report Sammy’s emotional and physical bullying. Recently, Sammy was assaulted on a school bus, resulting in his glasses being broken.
“They were making fun of him for his glasses in the beginning, then on to make fun of his teeth. It went on for a long time,” Sam Teusch revealed to WTHR-TV. “They knew this was going on,” he added, alluding to the school officials.
In response, Greenfield-Central Community Schools released a statement indicating that the district, in collaboration with the Greenfield Police Department, is conducting an investigation into Samuel Teusch’s death.
“The passing of Samuel Teusch is a tragedy that has deeply impacted our school community and the broader community at large. Our hearts go out to the family during this difficult time,” the statement expressed.

The district further explained, “Our staff at Greenfield-Central has been in regular contact with the Teusch family over the past 18 months. Communication between school personnel and the parents was frequent. The parents have reported the cause of death as suicide, and we are actively investigating their allegations regarding bullying.”
“While the investigation progresses, our primary focus is on addressing the immediate needs of the students enrolled in Greenfield-Central Schools,” the statement concluded.
Additionally, the Greenfield police issued a statement, confirming that Sammy’s death is currently under investigation.
“Parents, this is a crucial time to engage in open dialogue with your children,” urged the police.
“Ensure that there are no aspects of their lives that remain hidden from you, whether it pertains to school, homework, sports, friends, or any other facet of their existence. By fostering ongoing conversations about daily activities, you create an environment where they feel comfortable discussing difficult topics,” the police statement advised parents.

However, Sammy’s parents felt that the school should have taken more proactive measures to safeguard their son, especially since the abuse extended beyond the school premises and spilled over onto social media platforms, as revealed by his father in an interview with WTHR-TV.
According to Sam Teusch, threatening messages were circulated by classmates, stating, “I’m going to beat you up. I’m going to beat you up when you get to school.” These alarming posts often targeted Sammy’s mother, exacerbating his distress, as shared by his father.
Tragically, it was Sam Teusch who discovered Sammy’s lifeless body on a Sunday morning in his son’s bedroom.
“I held him in my arms. I did the thing no father should ever have to do. And anytime I close my eyes, it’s all I can see,” expressed the grief-stricken father.

To assist with the financial burdens, the family initiated a GoFundMe campaign. As of today, donations had surpassed $53,000, surpassing the initial fundraising goal of $30,000.
“Sammy was an exceptional child with a radiant personality. He possessed intelligence, humor, charm, and profound empathy. He illuminated the lives of everyone he encountered and was the heart of any gathering,” the campaign page commemorated.
“Tragically, he prematurely departed from this world on Sunday, May 5th, 2024, a victim of bullying,” it lamented.
